Costco guide
How a Costco price adjustment works
Updated
Quick answer: if the price of something you bought at Costco drops within 30 days of your purchase, Costco refunds you the difference. You keep the item — no return, no rebuy. Warehouse purchases are handled at the warehouse; Costco.com orders go through an online form.
The 30-day rule
Costco's price adjustment window is 30 days from the date you purchased the item. Inside that window, if Costco lowers the price — a markdown, a coupon-book promotion, an instant savings event — you can claim the difference between what you paid and the new price.
Three things need to line up:
- Same item. The exact item number — same model, size, and color, not a similar product.
- Same channel. The lower price has to be where you bought it. Warehouse purchases compare against warehouse prices, Costco.com orders against Costco.com prices. The two do not cross over — that split trips up more members than anything else, and it is covered in detail in online vs. warehouse: two separate tracks.
- Inside 30 days. The clock starts on the purchase date, not the day you notice the drop.
How to claim: warehouse purchases
Go to the service counter at any Costco warehouse — it is usually the same desk that handles returns and membership, though the exact setup varies by location. Tell them the item dropped in price since you bought it. Staff can pull up your purchase on your membership, verify the current price, and refund you the difference on the spot, normally back to your original form of payment.
Bring your membership card. A receipt or the Costco app speeds things up, but your purchase history is tied to your membership either way.
How to claim: Costco.com orders
Do not drive to the warehouse for an online order — the warehouse works from warehouse prices. Instead, use the price adjustment request on Costco.com: sign in, open Customer Service, and look for Request a Price Adjustment. If your order qualifies, the credit goes back to the payment method on the order, typically within a few business days.
What you get back
The refund is the difference between the price you paid and the current price, including the case where a coupon-book discount started after you bought. There is no fee and no effect on your warranty or your ability to return the item later.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my receipt for a Costco price adjustment?
Usually not for warehouse purchases: everything you buy is recorded on your membership, so staff can look the purchase up. Bringing the receipt or the Costco app still makes the visit faster. For Costco.com orders, your order history is the record — no receipt needed.
Can I get a second price adjustment if the price drops again?
Costco's published policy does not address repeat adjustments. If the price falls again while you are still inside your original 30-day window, it costs nothing to ask.
Do Executive members get a longer price adjustment window?
No. The Executive membership adds an annual 2% reward on purchases; it does not extend the 30-day price adjustment window.
The hard part is not the claim — it is knowing the price dropped at all. Costco does not notify past buyers, and the common ways people miss out are covered in 3 mistakes that cost you a Costco price adjustment. If you spot a price ending in .97, that is its own story: what .97 means on a Costco price tag.
